What is Groundswell?

I have to admit that I just started reading Groundwell by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff and I am looking forward reading the next 200 pages…
My favorite quote so far:
“the groundswell is: a social trend in which people use technologies to get what they need from eachother, rather than from traditional institutions like corporations….people’s desire to connect, use new interactive technologies and online economics” are the three key factors for groundwell.
